The Waggon & Horses at Matley is a warm and friendly family-run local with an emphasis on good, home-cooked food. It's situated at the top of what's known locally as the deep cutting, on the Mottram road between Stalybridge and Glossop. Originally built in 1663 as a farmhouse, it's been a tavern since 1789 and was first known as the Sandmill Inn. Today it has a separate restaurant and bar area and a covered and heated garden space. The menu is an extensive traditional pub menu running alongside specials and the popular Sunday Lunch menu. The Waggon & Horses is open every day, both lunchtimes and evenings, and can also cater for small parties and functions.
