Service bad, food not good, staff not professional.

Went for the office Xmas lunch last week and the food was wonderful. Lovely Country Pub, good service and they don't skimp on portion sizes. Recommend to anyone.

the food seems to have gone down hill considerably over the last 12months or so. used to dine here on a regular basis as was always great food and service. on our last visit we both had set meal, i had broccoli and Stilton soup which was like puree baby food with no Stilton flavour at all, my partner had Stilton mushrooms which looked and tasted as if the mushrooms were deep fried then placed in a lack lustre white sauce again with no Stilton flavour. next we both opted for "the famous lamb" which was again a let down considering we always have it the lamb was extremely fatty and chewy and the gravy under seasoned and lacking in any depth!! will not be returning anytime soon

Visited here several times over the years and usually have the lamb, it's so tender and just falls off the bone. I've been with groups from work who have had different main courses and they all said theirs was good.
No complaints about the food , but the restaurant is very dark with minimal lighting which makes it difficult to read the menu, especially if its winter and dark outside.

My partner and I had Sunday lunch at the Walton Arms in Altham on 29th March 2009 and frankly we have been very disappointed by the service. We ordered our food at 2.50pm and opted for the the three course offer and sat in the bar area - this was probably our first mistake, as we were forgotten about. The starters were pleasant enough, and the main course acceptable though the roast beef was a little too fatty and chew in places. We waited for someone to clear our plates (from about 3.55pm) but no-one came, so we left at approximately 4.25pm without enjoying our third course which had already been paid for. On leaving we were going to speak to the staff, but couldn't get their attention as 4 of them were in deep discussion at the end of the bar, oblivious to the needs of their customers. This was our first visit to the Walton Arms and probably our last - what a shame that such poor service has left a bad impression

This is the second time I have had to complain about this restaurant and the last time I did I was assured by the owner that this was not the way that the restaurant operates and to give you another try, well I did and I wish I hadn’t!!!!!
My friends and I wanted to have Sunday lunch and suggested that we eat in your restaurant, I didn’t really want to but after the response I got from you last time I complained I agreed to give it another go, on arrival I was yet again greeted by the rude Manager who advised us that we had to wait an hour for a table with no suggestion of sitting in the bar area (there was hardly any customers in the place), I suggested this and much to his disappointment we stayed and had meal, I asked him what we needed to do and why sitting in the bar area was different and he didn’t seem to want to tell us anything! He told us that we would have to order everything at the bar and they didn’t come to the table on that my friend cracked a joke and said well how do we get the food to the table and he looked at us all in disgusted like having fun was a dirty crime!!!
We went to pick a table and feeling pretty deflated by him again we finally ordered our food, me and my friend ordered the mushrooms and I have had these before and they tasted nothing like they did last time I had them, the sauce was like water and was absolutely tasteless, my other friend had soup and enjoyed that, when we had finished the plates were cleared and we had to wait for half an hour for our main meals, when they finally arrived they were ok and after we had finished we ordered the sweet at the bar, we asked for custard instead of cream and the very unhelpful manager just said NO, not you can pay extra, not we don’t sell custard….just NO, so when I asked can I pay extra he reluctantly said yes so we sat back down very angry and thinking why the hell are we here again and for another 20 minutes we were left with dirty plates on our table for the whole time until the waitress came with the desert and when she realized she just shouted at her fellow work mates for not clearing away the plates, I actually vomited when I got home too and was very worried that i wouldn't be able to make it to work in the morning, luckily i managed it but i still feel poorly!!!!
Now I don’t know how you want to run your restaurant but having a rude unhelpful Manager on shift damaging your trade must not be a good thing, I will not be wasting my money in your restaurant again and me and my fellow diners will be making sure that none of our other friends waste there money in your restaurant either and it is such a shame…if I was you I would get your Manager to change his attitude with your PAYING customers or you wont have any left!!!

I have eaten here on many occasions and the food is always good and great value for money, the service is not usually great but we keep going because the food makes up for this…..however I visited here on Sunday and have never been so disgusted by service in my life, my parents live in the lake district and I asked them to come to this restaurant with me specially as I had told them how great the food was and true to my word the food came and we enjoyed it but when we asked for the bill it all went horribly wrong usually we wanted to pay separately which obviously put the duty manager out and he made sure that we knew about his annoyance....after standing there being given dirty looks from the manager and feeling like I had done a terrible crime I asked him to take a further £15 off my card and that a smile would be nice when in return he scowled at me and said what!!!! I thought oh dear I have obviously really upset this guy for some reason so I asked him why he was being so rude and he replied that I was being rude him which I was certainly NOT…..he acted in this disgusting manor in front of lots other diners making me my family and everyone around very uncomfortable!!!! My advise is if you are not a placid person and you want some kind of customer service don’t eat here if you want good food and you can cope with arrogant angry manager that make you feel like you are putting them out because you are paying customer eat here!!!!!!
