We have lived in North Devon for four years and our first visit to Wellingtons last night was the best meal we've eaten since we moved down here. We're both vegetarians and were delighted with the separate menu that was produced for us ahead of our visit. We can't speak highly enough of the warm welcome we received and John is a perfect host. All our dishes more than matched the front of house and we went home elated that we have found somewhere so fantastic to eat so close to home. I would climb mountains for the alcoholic limoncello ice cream. All in all, an outstanding experience. Rob and Jules.

We were in Ilfracombe for just one week and with so many restaurants to choose from I wonder if we would have stumbled across Wellingtons. Luckily for us we met John in the excellent George and Dragon pub after his performance with the banjo and mandolin. Chat turned from music to other things and resulted in John passing his card to us. We decided to book a table without even knowing the menu. We were greeted like old friends and looked after so well we felt immediately at home. The food was truly excellent and happily Suzanne was able to come and spend a little time with us. Look out for the slightly unusual during your eating experience. We look forward to returning one of these days.

I happened to find this restaurant whilst camping nearby with my best friend and our daughters. John and Suzanne looked after us like royalty. In Feb 2011 I visited again with my partner and stayed overnight. The room was super, bed comfortable, clean and no pressure to get up too early. Breakfast excellent I really enjoyed the kedgeree. The evening meal was fantastic and I took away a recipe with me. Service second to none. We will definitely be returning with friends in tow too. Many thanks to you both for making us feel like family.

We visited Wellingtons on Wed 11 Aug 2010 and were absolutely thrilled with every aspect of the meal and service. From the warm welcome by John to the enthusiasm shown by Suzanne, nothing was too much trouble, and the only regret was that we could only manage the first two courses - not counting the canapes and sorbets! Favourite has to be the unique Beef Wellington, which had meat so tender you didn't need a steak knife. Excellent vegetarian options, too. A thoroughly enjoyable evening which was enhanced by a knowledgeable and professional management team. I would recommend anyone in the area to visit and enjoy this restaurant.

John is the perfect host, making my husband and I so very welcome. Suzanne enthralls us every time with superb cuisine. Comparable to Michelin starred restaurants. The menu changes frequently and I find it hard to decide what to eat as it's all so very delicious. As I write this trying to find adequate words to describe the best restaurant I have ever eaten in I find my mouth salivating at the thought of each mouthful, it is food to take one's time over as the presentation is creative and artful, the first bite never fails to make me smile. John and Suzanne were a great help for a large family gathering we held at Wellington's, they could not do enough for us. For my mother-in-law to hand write a letter to me asking to personally thank John & Suzanne spoke volumes in my book. I do foresee Wellington's getting so busy that I'll need to book months in advance, that'll be no problem, as I would return if I had to be on a waiting list of a year or more. If you enjoy good food, cooked well in a most pleasant restaurant, eat here.

Well what can i say about this gem of a restaurant that would adequately convey just how good it really is. The food has been cooked to perfection every time we have visited and the menu is always varied with something for everyone. John is the perfect host, making you feel welcome and at home. i would not hesitate in recommending it to anyone and everyone.

Wellingtons Coastal House & Restaurant in Ilfracombe is a real gem! There was a warm welcome from the moment we walked through the door and both John and Suzanne were !the perfect hosts. The room was lovely and the bed was so comfortable we slept like babies. The presentation and quality of the food was exceptional from the 3 course dinner (with amuse bouche) to the perfectly cooked breakfast. Wellingtons is the place to stay & eat in Ilfracombe!

Suzanne and John never fail to make all their guests welcome. The food is fabulous with delightful surprises to accompany meals eg: small home made savoury scones with smoked salmon and black current jam (Yes Jam) and they tasted wonderful. They do something different every time Thank You very much for another wonderful evening.

We cannot rate this place highly enough. The food, prepared by Suzanne is comparable to anything you would expect from a Michelin-starred restaurant, and the warm and friendly service (not to mention outstanding background music selection) provided by husband John, combines to give make this place better than a Michelin-starred restaurant. It's cosy atmosphere seats only four tables, but this makes it really special. The food, ranging from fresh seafood dishes in exquisite homemade sauces, to crispy aromatic duck tarts, to beautifully tender 10oz fillet steak beef wellingtons, does not cost the earth and yet tastes like heaven. We've eaten in what is touted to be the finest the UK (and the world) state there is... Clearly, the people who assess the Best Restaurant in the World have never ventured to Ilfracombe! But then, it's probably best they don't - cos we'd rather keep it as our own best kept secret!!
