I took very dear friends to the Cowshed for what I hoped would be a very special meal. What a disappointment !!!!!!!!!!!! We got ONE THIRD of what we had chosen and one main course meal was served with a piece of plastic bag probably originally containing the bought in veg. and 2 out of the 3 main courses were 'Sold Out".
If my replacement veal was genuine veal then I certainly was NOT brought up on a farm.
Of the starters the Deep Fried Brie was delicious but the other cheese starter tasted strongly of the OIL in which it had been fried.
The 3 sweets were the only part f the meal that we could not find fault with. For this I paid a bill of £105.70 which at £35 per head was about 300% above what it was worth.

My girlfriend and I went to the wheatsheaf after stopping and asking a local man where was a good place for a Sunday roast. Although fully booked, the staff were friendly and told us they could accommodate us in an hour and were also helpful when it came to sorting out my vegetarian girlfriend. The food was lovely, we had a delicious home made soup, a roast and a homemade apple and blackcurrant pie which was superb. The converted cowshed makes a great place to eat, with a warm friendly atmosphere, and the meal was delicious high quality fare, which, at £13.95 for 3 courses was great value. We're definitely going again!!

i recently went to the cowshed restaurant for a evening meal. i have never eaten in the evening before ive only been for a light lunch in the pub. i was drawn to the restaurant by the publicity in my local paper recently. the meal was lovely, and the choice of specials and variety was great. the service was very friendly. the only thing that was slightly disappointing was the deco in the conservatory, i felt that it let the rest of the lovely building down and needed brightening and updating.
i will be going again!!

Great surroundings, interesting menu and very good service, relaxed atmosphere. Now to the food, we had heard good things about the Cow Shed from friends and were not disappointed. It really was outstanding, well thought through with good portions, vegetables were superb too. Interesting wine list. Would recommend booking well in advance.
Wheatsheaf Inn
The Cowshed restaurant is the name for the top class A La Carte restaurant at The Wheatsheaf or 'Thatch' as it is locally known. Chef Julian Davies (ex Paparazzi, Chester), has been there since it’s opening in 1999 and devises the exceptional menu which he changes every 3-4 months. My favourite was the medallions of pork (now taken off the menu but Julian will make it at my request)!! The wine list is excellent and the decor (an old converted cowshed), is tremendous and thoroughly pleasant to sit in and enjoy with a great view of the fields and ponies . The restaurant serves toasties (about 80 varieties), steaks and salads daily from 11.30-2.30pm but booking is essential as it gets packed out especially on Fridays and weekends. Sunday lunch is a must try 10.95 for 3 courses, also you must book in advance. All meat and fresh produce is sourced locally and there are daily specials for both the daytime and A La Carte menu’s.
