Have finally reached the conclusion (after years of investigation!) that Whelans in Lytham does the best fish and chips in the area.

Lovely pudding chips and peas today. I will go again and recommend to others!

Enjoyed my portion of fish and chips from Whelans. A nice touch that they have the floor turfed for the Worl Cup. Glad the takeaway was in paper not those bloody boxes! Keep up the good work.

Black and green undercooked greasy chips, stingy portions...how difficult is it to cook chips? I'm not sure Ramsey and Stein would rate this chip shop anymore. I won't be buying my chips here there's a better one round the corner.

Ate here on recommendation from foodie friends and it's very good but we expected the best ever after the plaudits of top chefs too. Don't get me wrong the fish was beautifully fresh, batter nice and crispy if a little oily, good chips and unusual Tartare sauce; we just felt it hadn't quite lived up to the billing. The atmosphere and ambience like the service was OK but not especially welcoming. Still the prices are very reasonable and the wine measures very generous.

Whilst in line for my sublime chips I noticed Gordon Ramsey on the wall and a testimonial from Rick Stien on a flyer. Turned to my right and heypresto there was Bill Beaumont in the flesh. Like dining in the Ivy, celebs everywhere!

Before you go in look around the back it is disgusting the yard needs a good powerwash ,bins overflowing stale smelly water in the gutter .A health inspector should check this, it must not nice for residents to look at this or people passing.
