I highly recommend this gem. Went for the first time for Sunday lunch which was divine. My husband and I both thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the food and the service. Everything was perfect. My only suggestion would be to light the fire in the lounge. They were very accommodating when we asked to take our dessert 'to go'. The staff is gracious and the menu and quality of the food is top notch. Wonderful presentation, too.

what has happened to The Woodlands? One minute great food, next minute wierd "con-fusion" cooking and now just bland and average? Needs to cement an identity and stick too it

My partner and I ate here on Nov 9th 2007 as a special treat. The setting was beautiful, staff attentive and the whole room had a lovely opulent feel. On the down side I found it a little too 'art nouveau' for my liking, the food was perfection but the portions very small. The potato that came with my venison was basically a small dribble at the side of the plate, if I had been expecting this I would have ordered a side dish. 2 starters, 2 mains, a bottle of low-mid price wine, a coffee and a brandy came to £84 which by the time they have added the 10% service charge totted to a hefty £92.
I am not a gannet but I left slightly hungry I'm afraid to report, with a considerably lighter purse.

How Woodlands beautiful restaurant is not fully booked weeks in advance is a mystery. Contemporary classic surroundings, first class clever cooking and eager staff. Friendly staff greet you in a classy reception. The menus smart, very smart, any danger of pompousness is flattened by clever wording, Tesco peas, very vanilla ice cream! The dining room is stunning, crisp white table cloths, expensive cutlery and an amazing view of the terrace and gardens. Roll on summer! Good choice of drinks but a slightly amateur wine menu not helped by a bar tender with no wine knowledge? 9/10

Why does my Sunday lunch not taste this good!! What a wonderful Sunday lunch I have just enjoyed at Woodlands, rich onion soup, perfectly cooked rare beef, sticky toffee pudding heaven sent, with a glass of wine for about £20.00. The front room esq restaurant is a little lacking in atmosphere and the staff are young and nervously shy, not great coffee either. My advice, skip coffee and enjoy a glass of wine!!

High quality cooking in wonderful surroundings. Would like see the dining room busier as the atmosphere was lacking, not aided by poor music. Big smiles from friendly staff. Wonderful belly pork & john dory, excellent chocolate fondant. May have stayed in the bar for a brandy if it hadn't have been so warm & smokey.

I have been to Woodlands on several occasions and have always found the standard of food and service to be expalary. Nothing is too much trouble. Pricey but worth every penny.
