This small guest house between mountains and sea in the countryside on the edge of Snowdonia National Park has been awarded five stars by Visit Wales, and has won many awards, and been reviewed cordially in many British newspapers, journals and guides. It offers first-rate accommodation in cultured and tasteful surroundings (lots of books, paintings by contemporary Welsh artists, a Bechstein grand piano, antique and modern furniture, slate or wooden floors, beams, etc.) A delicious Welsh breakfast is served, freshly cooked on the Aga, using fresh, local produce, some of it organic, and some from the kitchen garden. Dinner is served by arrangement only (it must be booked beforehand). Food is down-to-earth, honest and full of flair: one might start with roast peppers Piedmontese (based on an Elizabeth David recipe), go on to a navarin of Welsh lamb with garden vegetables, followed by artiscan Welsh cheeses with homemade biscuits, with pears poached in red wine for pudding. There has been copious praise for the homemade organic brown bread. The welcome is personal, warm and very Welsh.
