meals now gone up from prices stated on here now 2 for £12.00. My lasagna had little meat in it mainly pasta and white sauce , my wife's corned beef pie pastry was rubbery , prob because of to much egg wash but the filling was nice but my brother had something off the specials board which was meatballs and a tomato sauce on tagliatelle. the meat balls were tasty but the pasta was badly cooked. When most people cook pasta they use boiling water with a little oil to stop it sticking together then drain and rinse in boiling water then re drain to serve . His pasta was a generous portion but was completely congealed into one large lump and was also undercooked . It was inedible . complaint made. apparently the cook was told but no apology offered from the kitchen but front of house staff were polite.
We were also sat in what they call the back room . There is a door off there into a small store room . The door kept opening and a draught came in causing it to be chilly. i went to close it . There appears to be a door to the outside and this store room was quite unkept where housekeeping is concerned. Lock it or clean it basically. It was filthy. I was sat like 5 feet from this area and the pubs baby high chair was placed in front of this of this door albeit there as stored not in usage. There were also slug / snail trails over the carpet . in all honesty we almost walked out before the meal arrived !
Also the gents loos going off this area leave something to be desired. I walked out saying i would not use them and someone else who was a customer said there was a loo at the other end of the pub. I found it very near to the kitchens and walked in . I was appaulled . The cublcle pan was chock ablock with unflushed feaces and soiled tissue paper and a clear glass window not frosted there was also a strong smell of urine. I went back to the other loo had a pee and we gladly left. Before doing so i commented on the genys loos to be told that there had been some rugbu boys in at lunchtime ...It was now 7pm why had the problem not been dealt with ???? Do not the staff check the state of the facilities?
This place has great potential but until its realised Im not going back they can keep their white plastic windows and dirty carpets for someone else.
I Like Food
Visited this venue for an evening meal as I had heard that it had just been voted runner up in the Swansea and Port Talbot Evening Post best Pub food competition.
I can really see why this pub was voted so highly as the food was exceptional. The cost was £9.99 for two meals which included Welsh black steak, which was cooked on a barbecue grill, even though the price was £9.99 for two meals no corners were cut and we still had full plates which included fresh salad, onion rings, mushrooms and peas and real chips.
The special board also looked very good and we were spoilt for choice.
The menus which were placed on the table informed us that all the food is locally sourced and the fresh cream was exceptional. This is sourced from a farm locally which won the prestigious prise of being the best cream at Buith Wells show.
Exceptional food which is priced very reasonable. Will have to return to try the other tempting meals such was Cymru Chicken, Steak in blue cheese sauce. Chicken in mushroom and garlic sauce.
Excellent service, Excellent choice. will definitely return.
Eatoutoften

Wide variety of meals and puddings to chose from , which alter weekly. Homemade Pies and REAL CHIPS!Excellent value for money , portions are large , two meals for £9.99 during some weekday evenings - bargain . Worth a visit!
Local Not Yokal
Nice place, beamed ceilings food good value for money but Mon to wed 2 meals for 9.99 from a limited but ok menu. rest of the week evening meals more expensive than at lunchtime I notice. Helpful staff who are polite and fresh flowers around the place make it welcoming. Now the smoking an is in place by far nicer to go to. however people do tend to smoke right outside the open door which means it drift in. I believe that according to guidelines this shouldn't be the case. Now have a guest ale as well but think there should be more proper ales thay are popular. The drink priced there are however expensive. and with 20p pot on the price of a pint b4 the budget 2008 this means stella is almost £3.00 a pint and carlburg is £2.85. Thats more expensive than Cardiff centre. Was told it was the brewery not them that increased the price. Contacted the brewery and told drink prices in this establishment was at the landlords discretion....Wot can i say???
there are some down sides to the place, though it has a nice size carpark just up the road people tend to try and park rigt outside and in fine weather if the outside seating is full pedestrians have to push past with little room for them on the pavement between seating and cars. The gentleman's lavatories off the lounge are in dire need of refurbishment although clean.
This pub also welcomes families which can be a mixed blessing. if its school holidays and you have a well behaved 12 yr old with you that's one thing if its a 2 week old baby that's another !! When I go out for lunch I don't want a screaming baby next to me Furthermore i don't expect the child to be changed in the main lounge area nor the back "restaurant "area directly in front of me!!! Although beyond the control of the publicans it IS their choice to allow such small children in. The only two other things is that firstly this place doesn't take cards which is a shame. People, inc me in the past ,have had to go to the cashpoint opposite at the local garage which doesn't always work ad Inst free ! The second has already been mentioned and that's the element of swearing by customers in the bar which is very audible in the lounge...and I mean a lot of swearing at the crudest of levels so maybe not as family suitable as you may first think.
pub monster
Nice oldie worldly pub which retained it original features. Low ceilings which would have been a nuisance when people smoked but now smoke free. Food was of good quality and the fresh flower around the pub gave it a good atmosphere. The staff were friendly and helpful. A traditional family run pub which serves good pub grub.
picnic lad
Nice old place with a good car park. Only draw backs were firstly the amount of cigarette smoke , but that? being banned in Wales soon in enclosed areas and unfortunately there was a fair amount of very bad swearing audible from the bar area. I am aware that a public house is an adult environment but if you are going out with friends or family for a relaxed time you really don? want that of thing do you? Although the food was really nice and well presented the price of a pint was not the cheapest I have encountered, indeed more expensive than some Cardiff city centre venues. Will go back once the smoking ban is in place it will far more enjoyable then ;-)
