Food excellent, service not up to standard. Went to the restaurant this weekend and was expecting a much higher standard than we received. Yes the food was excellent but the service definitely wasn't. I found the manager Vinny to be rude and ignorant of anyone that he didn't know, we asked for a drinks menu and after receiving it we ate and left the restaurant without drinks as no one came back to take our order! Vinny spent more time talking to the tables containing groups of girls and ignored everyone else. We asked for glasses of water at the beginning of the night and didn't get these so gave up, ate our food and left. It's a shame as the food is excellent.

We visited Yu and You on the 4th December for my birthday. We decided to visit following numerous recommendations and the well publicised Gordon Ramsey competition win. To say that we were unimpressed would be an understatement ! now don't get me wrong the food was fine, but that was all it was. I just expected so much more, it tasted and was presented like all the other chinese restaurants that I had previously visited. The atmosphere was lively but this was good as it was a Saturday night and we had been informed that this occurs and was normal. The service was poor and we had to wait at least 30 minutes for our mains and when we ordered drinks these always took too long to arrive.
If I was asked whether I would recommend this to anybody else I would simply say to them. "its a pricey Chinese restaurant and you could pick a number of other better value for money options"

I went here on Wednesday night to celebrate my birthday. The place itself is very impressive & the service is excellent. I know Gordon Ramsay recently voted it the best Chinese 2010 & to be totally honest I expected a lot more.
We all ordered our food, i requested the wagu beef (which they didn't have, but did inform us that from the Friday coming it will be on the menu. for that reason i will be returning) The cocktail menu looked very good even though we did all opt for a bottle of the chablis.
For starters me and my Boyfriend had the Hors d'oeuvre which were very tasty. My Parents had the Scallops which also looked nice. For the Mains I had the Fillet Steak Cantonese Style, this was superb (well worth a try). My boyfriend had the Chicken and Cashew Nuts & from what he said it sounded excellent.
Before I even arrived at the restaurant I knew what I wanted for dessert, the Strawberry Samosas & unfortunately they didn't match the expectations that I had for them ( this doesn't mean they weren't nice because they were, but they weren't what I expected. ) My overall View for this restaurant is go and try it. The food is good the service is excellent & then restaurant itself is stunning. Thankyou

One word...WOW!
I'm a well travelled person who enjoys a good meal - especially far eastern cuisine.
I was recommended this restaurant by a friend who lives local whilst passing through and his recommendation was very greatly received.
I have been to the Hakkasan and Kai in London, two Michelin starred Chinese restaurants, and Yu & You in my eyes could quite easily hold their own against them.
From the warm welcome, Cocktail selection, to the service and obviously the food - just a breath of fresh air.
I honestly do not understand the negative comments previously written. Yes it is a dark restaurant but that creates an intimate setting, the music is modern but quite chilled, I would say an Ibiza chillout vibe. The service of the staff was fantastic, polite, friendly and knowledgeable.
I started with the Hot & Sour soup, had a nice tingle to it and full of flavour. I then had the Tempura Squid and a Dim Sum Platter - The squid was cooked perfectly in a lovely batter and the Dim Sum platter just delicious!
For the main course I decided to have Steamed Seabass and boiled rice. The Seabass just melted in your mouth and as just devine.
Overall a very pleasant experience, I would highly recommend this restaurant and I will be sure to visit again next time I'm in the area.

"Horrible experience"
This Chinese was very noisy like eating in a nightclub! (and im only 22!)
Food was extremely poor, ribs were fatty, prawn toast was tough, Bamboo chicken too chewy , Seabass was flavourless, Beef also very chewy and the coffee was cold!
Should have travelled little bit further to Northcote Manor!
Disappointing to say the least.

Came across the restaurant out of pure chance, thought it looked OK from the exterior, but what i surprise when we stepped inside. Saturday night at 7pm, managed to find a table for two almost immediately although it was reassuringly busy. One of the nicest meals I've had, definitely the best Chinese anyway. Table service- faultless, and food was promptly served, fresh and delicious. All without the heavy sleepy feeling after many Chinese meals manage to achieve. We eat out very often, however it is not the place you could visit every week in regards to price. But i would certainly be inclined to visit once a month after the lovely experience we had.
Our best discovery yet! Just goes to show being a little adventurous pays off every now and again.

4 of us went here on a Friday night to celebrate a birthday. We knew it was going to be a bit more expensive than your usual Chinese but it was worth every penny. The food was delicious and much lighter than your normal Chinese , there wasn't a thick batter on everything. The wine list is very good and the waiters were exceptional with topping our glasses, none of us ever had an empty glass (that might account for our sore heads the day after!) My friend has a serious allergy and the Manager came over to go through the menu with her. I have read some reviews on other sites from people who found this place pretentious but I didn't get that vibe at all, all the staff were friendly, and all customers were having a good time and there was a lively atmosphere.Overall we had a brilliant night , and will definitely be back

Yu & Yu is at first blush a highly desirable anglicized Cantonese restaurant in the very pleasant Ribble Valley. On further investigation, the substance is revealed to be far less than the form.
Once you are over the exotic cars in the parking lot, ranging from Bentleys to Porsche Cayenne Turbos, the weak service, average food and pretentiousness will be all too clear.
I have visited Yu & Yu maybe 5 or 6 times in the last couple of years with an average spend of approximately 60 pounds per person.
In the Ribble Valley there truly is no comparison. The interior is like a “W Hotel” on steroids, the music is cool jazz / ambient music and the ikea-esque furniture creates an interior atmosphere that is by any account “cool” for the 20 and 30 somethings, all the way through to my retired parents. The food similarly, has not much to compare to. In my world, compare the food, at a basic level, to that of Guide Village Cantonese from the early 1990s. (Note that it should be pointed out that the food comparison is really only valid for my early visits to Yu and Yu.)
Tonight, I have arrived home deeply disappointed. The food was ok. Not exceptional by a long way. The shrimp / prawn dishes contained few prawn, and were more Cho’s Takeaway than an impressive Cantonese restaurant (and 16 pounds for very few small shrimp with ginger borders on the ridiculous). The duck however, remains an impressive dish, though at 21 pounds for a half duck, so it should. (For reference, either branch of the Peking Duck House in New York, considered to be likely the best in New York, charges US$40 for a whole duck).
The Vermicelli noodles had the spice of a limp cucumber, and the shrimp tempura batter was like chip shop batter from the Blackpool seafront after it has been regurgitated by a drunk football fan.
The biggest disappointment however was the service. From walking up to the bar and asking for a menu, through to the coffees at the end of the meal (we gave up on the coffee: more than15 minutes wait with only approximately 10 other people in the restaurant, and 5 staff at 10.15pm on a Monday is unacceptable) the service was woeful. I spoke to the gentleman who appeared to be in charge after the initial appetizers about the service, but the improvement in service lasted barely a course or so. His father, who I understand maybe the owner, was sat at the bar listened when I cancelled the coffee at the end of the evening and did nothing.
My personal viewpoint is that there are enough people with silly money walking into this place that there is a fantastic complacency here and that the management team doesn’t care. I had zero bill credit, left a “standard” tip, and only received a response that my comments were appreciated.
For those who wish to flame me, I have lived in Hong Kong, and traveled and worked widely in Asia, and currently live in New York, so I have visited many of the comparable restaurants, in Asia and New York, and understand the balance between service, food quality, experience and price.
In summary, in my opinion, Yu and Yu is overpriced mediocrity, with a bent towards miserable service. Management would be well advised to wake up to how much the place has slipped over the last couple of years.

This restaurant promises to be a great experience, but as soon as we walked in I was frozen stiff. I was shivering and my fingers were so cool i sat on my hands to get them warm. The staff were friendly but it was hard to get their attention. After our mains were delivered it took five minutes to get someone to bring us knifes and forks by which time the food was cool! The food was ok, tempura squid was gorgeous!!! My main course of Thai prawns was dissapointing and was sent back. We were refunded for this dish but not for the accompanying noodles which seemed odd as I hadnt eaten them because the prawn dish had made me feel sick. My husband had the duck but commented it was fatty and not very good quality. I had the house Rose wine which wasnt very nice and Black Bison which tasted like antifreeze with a mouldy blackcurrent on top.
It wasnt my idea of a enjoyable romantic night out with my partner and sat near the kitchen which sounded like a freight train sped thru every ten minutes, the whole expereince was far from pleasurable!
Its an ok restaurant, nice decor, limited menu and dissaointing dessert choice. Not sure if I would go again.
