The Golden Lion Hotel – StirlingWe booked for breakfast with friends- young girl with blonde hair who served us was very friendly and bubbly. Didn’t feel rushed and breakfast was lovely. Tasted fresh. We will definitely come again.
Ravelston House – EdinburghMy chosen dishes were sensational, every morsel bursting with flavour but never overwhelming, sublime. How wonderful for Orkney to have a restaurant that can showcase the local seafood and farm produce with such brilliance. Thank you.
Hamnavoe – Orkneys and ShetlandsAn amazing meal, beautifully cooked and deep flavours. We ordered the Trout and Langoustine for starters. Both perfectly cooked and the broth that came with each was so beautifully complex. The Cod and the Beef were outstanding again for their cookery. The Cod was wonderfully delicate and flaky to perfection, the sauce with the beef was so rich and deep I could have had a cup of this on its own. The sweets of Strawberries on shortbread was so light, and the chocolate tort was so rich. Perfect end to a great meal. The service was very good with care and attention to our needs. Overall a perfect experience for us.
Hamnavoe – Orkneys and ShetlandsLovely service, lovely food, pleasant surroundings. You come here for the food for sure. Local produce with an Asian leaning - fresh and beautifully cooked. We had scallops and tempura prawns to start followed by the lobster and ravioli for mains with one chocolate tart and coffee for sweet. The food was really excellent, portion size perfect, service cadence spot on and the service pleasant and attentive without being overbearing. Wonderful.
Hamnavoe – Orkneys and ShetlandsLovely little restaurant with excellent imaginative food. Highly recommend.
Hamnavoe – Orkneys and ShetlandsIf you have one special night out in your time in the Orkney's, pick the Hamnavoe. Just brilliant. I had an early sitting, but was not rushed in the slightest. To start, I had the vegetable tempura, with pickled cucumber and chilli and an excellent For main, I considered the scallops, but opted for the lobster. What a good decision (though I'm sure the scallops were also great). Lobster was served with noodles and incredibly delicious mushrooms. Zomg. Also had the green bean side - excellent, and perfectly cooked. For dessert I had the chocolate tart which was astonishingly good - particularly the shell, crispy and sweet. Richness nicely offset with creme fraiche. Lovely service, great atmosphere, just 10/10.
Hamnavoe – Orkneys and Shetlandsservice and food was amazing
Steak and Cherry – GlasgowVery nice meal served by very nice staff
Steak and Cherry – GlasgowBooked S&C for a large group meal. Service was good, food came out in a timely fashion and everyone in the party enjoyed their meal. Would go there again.
Steak and Cherry – GlasgowWe’ve lived in Orkney for 6 years and this was the best meal we’ve had locally. The food was a great mix of local produce with some Asian flavours. Service was friendly and efficient. The price was towards the upper end of Orkney restaurants with the food being better than some of their more expensive competitors. We’ll return soon.
Hamnavoe – Orkneys and ShetlandsIt was nice to be back after many years. The food was solid, top-notch. We did miss the creativity that we remembered from our earlier visit a bit — i guess that’s just a sign of the times. Service was dedicated and capable, albeit slightly inexperienced, or so it seemed. The coffee was lacking a bit for a restaurant of this caliber.
Hamnavoe – Orkneys and ShetlandsWent here before heading to theatre. Nice mix on the menu as kids don't like steak. Nice atmosphere, good service.
Steak and Cherry – GlasgowAbsolutely historic scallops starter. So good - had it as a desert as well. Loved the pickled mushrooms lifting both starters and main course. Main courses well executed maybe missed the heights of the starter and service not polished but friendly. Great place in Stromness.
Hamnavoe – Orkneys and ShetlandsThe food at Hamnavoe is excellent, well-cooked and thoughtfully presented. A combination of local ingredients and imaginative combination made the meal a delight. Some aspects of the restaurant gave the impression that it was not as settled as it could be (and I noticed that they were advertising for help front-of-house). The service, whilst friendly, was a bit amateurish, with the napkins and cutlery simply dumped on the table in front of us (and cheap paper napkins at that); while our service was prompt, I noticed that the adjoining table’s guests had to repeatedly go up to the desk to request things (both their wine and their bill). It is undoubtedly Stromness’s best restaurant, and probably the best in Orkney. We would gladly eat there again.
