The Tilley Raven – ShrewsburyWe visited the Tilley Raven on Tuesday (a party of four). It was an early booking, 6.30, and as expected it was very quiet. However, lovely surroundings, excellent food, drinks and service. We will certainly be visiting again as it is not far from where we live. Thanks Millie!
The Tilley Raven – ShrewsburyA mixed bag some good things some not so good. To begin with they had lost our booking and given our table to someone else, but in fairness to the manager she quickly sorted that. The table next to us had 2 large dogs who were barking constantly, not a fan of allowing dogs into restaurants but definitely not on Mothers day. The drinks service was ok, although was charged £8.60 for a G+T, should have queried it don't like the practise of automatically charging for doubles when it isnt requested. The sunday roasts were decent , (no crackling with my pork though), excellent portions, although weren't overly hot and think gravy should be served separately. I like lots my mother doesnt like much and both were swimming in it. That was fine for me not her. Also a 40 minute wait for food from time we ordered is too long when we were all having Sunday roasts. The whole thing seemed very chaotic, I dont think the staff were particularly efficient although i would exclude the manager/landlady from that, shes very good. Would I go back ? yes possibly because the place has potential but they need to improve certain things that are easy to improve.
The Tilley Raven – ShrewsburyFantastic service yet again, food was beautiful, our party of 8 had different food choices and all were great, Atmosphere was lovely Staff all very friendly 1000% recommended
The Tilley Raven – ShrewsburyWent for the Saturday Fish Night and had a really lovely meal, served in a friendly and professional manner and in welcoming surroundings. Great quality and good value, with some interesting dishes on offer both on the specials and everyday menu. We will be going back for sure. It is a pity though that it's so quiet - only 4 tables taken on a Saturday night when we were there - they deserve much more. Hopefully they can regain their deserved reputation and get more support from the village and nearby residents. We will certainly be spreading the word!
The Tilley Raven – ShrewsburyProbably the best Sunday Roast we have ever had. We were served a very generous portion of roast pork and an array of vegetables that were so tasty we could have happily been served just those with the delicious gravy. But the absolute cherry on the cake was the pork crackling. The staff were friendly and welcoming and service was quick. They accommodated our children by providing colouring pages & crayons and even displayed the children’s art on the wall.
The Tilley Raven – ShrewsburyWe have had two meals at the Bulls Head and both have been great with friendly & prompt service.
The Bull – ShrewsburyLovely meal and lovely service. The young girl serving was very polite and welcoming. Will 100% be back again soon .
The Bull – ShrewsburyWell what a nightmare!!! I had booked this place for a special birthday meal having dined at other Craft and Jam pubs and viewing the menu on-line we were all looking forward to the meal with eager anticipation. Firstly the service. We arrived at the pub the bar was quite full, so far so good, although no sign of any staff so maybe it was a free bar and that’s why everyone was smiling? We went into the restaurant which was empty save for one couple tucked away in the corner both looking a bit gloomy. (Maybe they had missed out on the free bar lol) We waited a while, no sign of staff anywhere. A couple of strategic coughs later the barmaid arrived with a slightly surprised look on her face that people were actually in the restaurant. I explained we had booked a table but no checking was needed after all the place was empty. The barmaid handed us two menus (which were stuck together with some unknown substance but presumably the remnants of someone’s previous meal) there were three of us by the way so three menus would have been nice, then led us to our table. Most of the menu was crossed out, no steaks, no mixed grill, in fact pretty much nothing I think there might have been an old cottage pie left for us to fight over?!?! The barmaid, come head waitress and who knows possibly chef as well did mutter a sorry that suppliers had let them down but it should be okay by tomorrow (Not sure what good that was as I wasn’t willing to sit at the table for 24 hours for my food) and led us to our table to deliberate. The meal itself. Well what can I say. Well nothing actually because there wasn’t really anything to order. I would love to enthuse that my steak was cooked to perfection or to rave about the sumptuous chicken wing starters but I can’t, they didn’t have any!!! We swiftly reached the conclusion this was a complete shambles and left now having the prospect of hastily arranging another venue to celebrate my sons birthday. Now I fully accept things happen outside of the pubs control but what I find absolutely disgusting and incredibly poor customer service is it wouldn’t have taken much to send out an email to the bookings for that evening (after all at the time we arrived there was only us and one other table occupied) and explain that suppliers had let them down and they had none or next to no food available. We ended up having a fabulous curry in Shrewsbury in the end but my advice if you want to make sure of a lovely meal with a great choice of food and great customer service, don’t do as we did by booking this place first, cut out the middle man and book somewhere else straight away.
The Bull – ShrewsburyHands down one of the best, if not the best Sunday Roasts we have had. Beautiful pub, great staff, what more do you want. I only wish it was our local.
The Tilley Raven – ShrewsburyFood was delicious, as always. Service was outstanding, cannot fault.
The Bull – ShrewsburyUnfortunately not the best experience.. I’ll try and lace this review with something positive though. PMA and all that! This was the only place we could find a table to book. We had both visited years ago though and expected a similarly enjoyable meal. However, the atmosphere was flat, tables are so close together you’re basically sat on randomers laps. Half wondered why we hadn’t needed to put our keys in a bowl at the door… The back door was left open so it was freezing. Nothing like needing to wear a coat inside, what a treat! Our second round of drinks failed to appear, ever, and the food was cold. A common theme though in that respect I guess, cold! My partners steak.. well.. I wouldn’t have fed that to my dog. One of the two steaks was literally still chewing grass as it landed on the plate. Part of the food order failed to arrive, despite being promised it three times. I’m actually pretty convinced the table next door ended up with that. I was basically sat on the chaps lap so maybe I should’ve asked him if he had ordered them or if they’d just accepted them for the crack. That couple mysteriously stopped talking when they heard us say repeatedly what hadn’t turned up.. and on that note! A steak knife didn’t turn up until easily midway through a luke warm offering of overpriced food either. Didn’t know my partner was a butcher, but he definitely gave that semi-alive steak a good try. Such a shame. But the staff were lovely and chatty! So, well done to them. The salt and pepper dispensers were quite interesting too. Oh! And I liked the gin. Shame the second didn’t appear as maybe I would’ve forgotten the dire state of affairs food wise and left a glowing comment.
The Bull – ShrewsburyArrived expecting a Sunday lunch to later discover there was none available due to a high volume of orders over the course of the day. However we were welcomed by the staff and was advised to choose off the general menu if we wished to do so. The food was delicious and the service was excellent as we only experienced the Sunday lunch last time we visited hence why we returned. We will definitely visit again even if we don’t have Sunday lunch. For future reference it would be useful if customers were notified via call or email prior to visiting if Sunday lunch is not available.
The Bull – ShrewsburyExcellent food and drink. Service is always brilliant. Try the Sunday lunch, but make sure you are hungry! Our go to restaurant.
The Tilley Raven – ShrewsburyGreat food and lovely personal service, would definitely recommend .
The Tilley Raven – ShrewsburyWent for the mother in law’s birthday last time we went was 4 years ago for my wife’s birthday and it was terrible. Heard of some good reviews so decided to try it again. Couldn’t fault the staff, ordered steak and all it came with was steak, chips, 1 mushroom with small amount of greenery, this was the same for the for all the other 4 meals really could have done with veg or salad, slightly pricey for what you got, the food however was nice. I ordered the black pudding, bacon chips to go with my burger this was an additional £3.50, stand alone price £6, definitely wasn’t worth the additional cost should have just had the chips that came with the burger. Would go back.
The Bull – ShrewsburyWe haven’t been to the Tilley Raven for a long time and we’re delighted when we heard it had reopened! We were also pleasantly surprised! We had booked as a meet up with family and thought we would give it a go…we will definitely be back. The food was delish and extremely reasonable- price wise. The service was equally as good, the lovely lady was so friendly and accommodating. She didn’t rush us or seem stressed considering it looked to be only her on service and it was busy. She was a big part of our lovely experience. Also, the decor, so gorgeous! Comfortable, warm and rustic. But also clean! We will see you again soon! Thank you for such a lovely experience!
