nice but quiet
East Meets West – St AustellOn the strength of the Good Hotel Guide 2002 we stayed at this excellent small hotel last year, and were so impressed that we booked for a longer stay in September this year. We cannot speak too highly of the ambience, comfort and cuisine. The whole hotel has been redecorated in elegant, tranquil colours. Dinner is taken in a candle lit panelled dining room, while breakfast is served in the conservatory. The choice at breakfast was quite the best we experienced in any of the hotels we stayed in during our recent holiday in the south west. A five course was also beautifully cooked with a choice of four starters, main courses sweets and a good selection of local cheeses (although we did find the portions over generous.) The menu is complimented by a very reasonably priced wine list. Our bedroom was spacious and comfortable with an en-suite bathroom containing a walk in shower as well as a bath. After dinner we were tempted to linger over coffee in the hotel lounge where comfortable sofas and arm chairs, as well as the log fire made us feel very much at home.
Boscundle Manor Hotel and Restaurant – St AustellA very welcoming family orientated country gastro-pub with restaurant area and separate family room. The menu is wide ranging and varied and both the portion size and quality is extremely good. Pub meals do not get any better than this, we are now regular visitors when in the area.
Polgooth Inn – St AustellAbsolutely superb from start to finish, we had a party of 8 an every dish chosen was a complete success, definitely worth a visit.
Wreckers – St AustellWent to this locally known takeaway in Holm bush St Austell and was really nice food, they have a very wide menu and a good vegetarian menu aswell. Staff were friendly. never tasted fish and chips like this before 10 out of 10 to the young lad cooking at Holm bush fish bar
Holmbush Fish Bar – St AustellThis was the best meal we had in Cornwall. Mussels to start, monkfish with crab cake to die for. Staff very friendly and would highly recommend you try this restaurant.
Wreckers – St AustellI have eaten at the Pier House on special occasions, such as New Year & Valentines Day and was extremely impressed. The fish dishes particularly are superb. For the Valentines meal, I had monkfish in pancetta on a bed of cous cous with roasted red peppers & feta cheese. Absolutely beautiful! I also ordered the most wicked cointreau & chocolate roulade. The staff are really friendly & the main part of the restaurant has harbour views, although if you are seated in the bistro part, it isn't half as nice. I think that is my only criticism. I haven't tried the Sunday carvery for some years, but I am sure it will be in the same league as the a la carte menu.
Pier House Hotel – St AustellVery good food and service and, best of all, one of the few Indian restaurants to bring back Bombay Duck since it was unbanned by the EC. Well done to them and worth a visit just to taste with wonderful delicacy again.
Eastern Paradise – St AustellOne of the best meals we had on a recent trip to Cornwall. Beautifully varied menu and excellent wine list. Good use of local produce. The crab starter was outstanding.
Wreckers – St Austellthe food was outstanding and the service was unbeatable you wouldn't find better service anywhere, they were friendly. we did not have to wait very long at all. the wine was excellant.
Wreckers – St AustellAn excellent meal from a well thought out menu. The wine list is also of the same calibre. The service was excellent and the staff friendly. On the whole to be thoroughly recommended.
Wreckers – St AustellAn excellent new restaurant! The food was delicious and exceptionally good value when compared to 'big city' restaurants of similar quality. (The chocolate dessert was to die for!!) The wine list was extensive with lots of moderately priced options. I also loved the decor and ambience - fresh and roomy, but also quite chilled out. You didn't feel like you were dining on top of everyone else! I can imagine that in summer the outdoor terrace will also be a great place for lunches or an early evening G&T!
Wreckers – St AustellThoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, have, and will continue to recommend to all. Congratulations.
