Everything was spot on. Had oysters and garlic prawns as starter. Fish and seafood medley and grilled monkfish and skate. Fish was cooked perfectly. Sides too. Would definitely recommend!

Magpie Cafe – WhitbyLovely meal!
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyAbsolutely perfect!
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyFirst class food. First class service.
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyDespite the slightly odd atmosphere created by the screens, and leaving through the back door into an alley, we enjoyed a really good meal at the Magpie Cafe one night last week. All of the food was excellent, as was the house white, and the service was impeccable. We shall return here any time we visit the Whitby area. Thoroughly recommended.
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyI brought my friend to this famous fish and chip cafe as she had never visited Whitby before. She sampled fish and chips and I had scampi and chips on the recommendation of James Martin. We were served by a lovely waitress called Mel who laughed with us 're James Martin. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals washed down with a bottle of wine. Would recommend to anyone wanting to try the local fish and chips.
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyOur favourite restaurant in Whitby, never fails to impress on quality. Staff are always friendly too. This time we shared the camembert starter. I had the magpie fish pie ( which is huge and I had to leave some). Hubby had seafood pot which comes with ciabatta to mop up the lovely juices. Lady next to us had a whopping piece of turbot which she said was the best she had ever had. Waitress checked with chef who said it was caught locally in Stockton (nice to know). We have booked again for later this week. Top marks!
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyCame to the Magpie for my sons 13th Birthday and just returned for his 38th Birthday. It still has a wonderful atmosphere and the staff were amazing and friendly. The food did not disappoint it was so tasty my son and son in law had the Cod and I had the starter Mixed fish in wine sauce with potatoes, it was more than enough. I won’t leave it so long to visit next time !
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyThis was our 3rd visit during restrictions and the food, service, value for money, and atmosphere were all excellent as always. Fresh oysters as good as ever and the fish dishes are amazing. If you love seafood (or meat) this is the place to eat in Whitby. Can’t wait for our next visit. Huge thanks to all the staff who work tirelessly to ensure everything is perfect.
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyGreat food lively and fresh simply the best place to visit should be on everyones bucket list
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyWe booked this wonderful cafe for an early evening dinner. We had previously visited a few years ago for lunch, but staying locally we wanted to experience a full meal, and boy were we in for a treat. Firstly the staff were absolutely lovely, the best in fact. The site was COVID secure. The food was blooming wonderful. Our party of 7 had a mix of dishes from fish and chips, scampi and chips, mussels and chips and we treated ourselves to a plate of 12 fresh Lindisfarne oysters! WOW - they were so, so fresh, plump and tasted of the sea - just as they should. The prices here were very good but the staff made you feel welcome and had a laugh with you too. I was bought one of the Magpie Cafe cookery books too so I hope to recreate the fabulous atmosphere, can replicate the view though - I live in the countryside.........
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyWe had the fish medley. The salmon and halibut were so over cooked to be dry. We were half way through the meal when the waitress asked how the food was. I complained. She returned saying the chef’s explanation was that as the fish was smaller than normal it would always be more cooked! What utter nonsense. The chef should reduce the cooking time obviously. My wife didn’t want to make a fuss so we were obliged to pay the bill in full. No doubt, the Magpie is not what it was if it’s chefs can’t cook fish properly.
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyMy third visit the The Magpie and the quality is as good as the first time. The food is fabulous and always cooked fresh, great choice of menu, in fact probably too much choice. The service is first class and during the current covid crisis staff were all operating within guidelines, but still maintained their usual friendly service. A visit to Whitby is not complete without eating at Magpie and would always recommend it to anyone.
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyFirst ate at The Magpie back in 2014 when it felt like we were eating in Grandma’s Parlour. Forward 7 years and despite COVID safety measures the restaurant feels rejuvenated and now in the 21 Century. Yes, the meals are expensive, but the quality and size of portions makes up for this. Will definitely return within the next 7 years.
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyDespite being busy the service and food were excellent - our friend enjoying her 60th birthday experienced her first oyster and an unexpected birthday cake. Very enjoyable and thank you Magpie Cafe.
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyJames Martin is spot on! Best fish and chips in the UK. Excellent
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyWe arrived early for a pre-booked table and we’re taken straight in to sit down. Food and service excellent. Very much enjoyed the experience.
