Magpie Cafe – WhitbyFabulous food & drink in a lovely relaxed atmosphere. So much choice and all of a high standard. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit & would highly recommend to others
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyWe have been coming to the Magpie for 30 yrs. The Fish/Food is as good as ever, however the service is not as good, lots of new staff need training by Audrey & Pam
Magpie Cafe – WhitbySuperb food served in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, my favourite kind of place to eat! I followed the hype but was definitely not disappointed, will return…
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyComing to North Yorkshire for a few years , following a review by A.A. Gill we make a round trip of 120 miles from where we usually stay to eat at The Magpie . This time we were local and as usual looked forward to our visit. We ate there twice the quality of the food was up to its usual high standard, fresh and cooked to perfection and well presented. Unfortunately the service was not up to their usual standard especially on the second visit. We ordered tea, first the cups arrived , then the tea and hot water but no milk. As there wasn’t any staff in sight I went to ask for it. No apology and somewhat indifferent attitude. When the food arrived we had to ask for ketchup which usually arrives in a timely manner. The service was perfunctory and the first time that we haven’t left a tip. We go for the whole experience maybe the next time it will be better.
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyThe food was excellent and amazing value for money and the staff were lovely. 10/10
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyGreat food, great serice glad l booked
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyIf king of the sea Lord Triton had given us permission to cook cod in batter he would have ordered it done the way as it is done at the Magpie Cafe in Whitby. To say this is a pantheon of fish and chips it is an understatement. It has been a few years since I have been to Whitby but oh my god it was so worth the wait, this cafe or probably a restaurant sits in its armchair overlooking the harbour and the many wannabe fisheries that laden the streets of this beautiful seaside town. Yet the Magpie stands as high as Whitby Abbey with everything around it looking up in awe. The food excels, the batter light crispy, the fish does not fall of the fork but stays there clinging on tantalising the taste buds with eagerly awaiting joy. The chips light crispy on the outside fluffy on the inside and mushy peas so delightful it all added up to a trilogy of completeness, the chip butty at the end was just the icing on the cake. For £34 a meal for two inc a drink may seem expensive for fish and chips but let me tell you this place is a goldmine. We booked our table in advance but there was a queue of 12 people willing to wait over an hour to get in. And it was busy but the food was not rushed or corners cut but served by friendly staff who are on top of their game. Perfection.
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyThe fish was excellent.

Magpie Cafe – WhitbyLovely meal and service from our favourite Whitby retaurant.
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyEvery time we go to Whitby (which is at least twice a year ) we eat there every other night good menu but fish and chips are so good we always have them , When we get back home we never have fish and chips they can’t cook them locally . Would highly recommend the Magpie.
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyWe were a group of 6 and had 5 different meals and they were excellent . It is a while since we’ve been in Whitby and the Magpie but we were not disappointed.
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyEverything I was hoping for !
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyVisited The Magpie on our recent wedding anniversary, which is not an event where one wants to take chances. I think my first visit was in 1970 and I have enjoyed many wonderful meals over the years. Our latest visit was no exception; the food was delicious. The service was good, but it was far busier than I would have expected mid-week in October. My only criticisms are that garlic seems to intruding and the Chablis was £36. I feel that garlic is acceptable with mussels, but not with any other fish. Sorry, but fish usually has a delicate flavour which can easily be swamped. Allow at least an extra half hour if you are travelling by car, as parking has become a nightmare. It is probably the reason why we usually go to Filey these days.
Magpie Cafe – WhitbySuper service and fresh fish and big portions
