Best Thai we've tasted in the UK, not too expensive, friendly attentive staff and a nice atmosphere. Try the mussamun curry with lamb or the Sea Bass with lime and Chilli - Divine!

Jintana Thai – WindermereI RECENTLY ATE HERE AND I AM STILL PAYING FOR IT! AVOID AT ALL COSTS (PRAWNS!).
Sutherlands – WindermereHad a lovely lunch of soup and a crayfish sandwich at the Brown Horse in the sun. The place is in the winster valley one of my favourite parts of the lake district!
Brown Horse Inn – WindermereSuperb meal with my family. The place was packed (Saturday evening) but we'd booked so no problems. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The Fillet steak was excellent and well priced compared to some places I could mention. Lovely bowl of roasted veg and potatoes to go with it all washed down with nice wine. Any pizza or pasta £3.90 for children..superb stuff. No hesitation in recommending this place to all. It was so nice we went back the following night. A proper Italian restaurant to savour!!
Villa Positano – WindermereWe had our first meal at The White House on Saturday 4th April. The meal was, without exagerration, one of the best I have eaten in a restaurant for some time - the chef clearly knows what he is doing and every course was superb, from the complimentary canapes and homemade bread that we were offered the moment we sat down, to the homemade pistachio ice-cream to round the meal off! Service was impeccable and very genuine. Decor was minimalistic and modern. There are good restaurants a many in Bowness, but The White House has got to be worth a try if you've not been before - we will be going back!
The White House – Windermeretucked away but needs to be shouted about, tasty food beautifully presented and excellent value we stayed overnight in one of the boutique style rooms and enjoyed the breakfast too ! Lovely cheery staff, proud of the local resourcing . We hope it does well, we will be returning but its a long way from berkshire.
The White House – Windermerei recommend this restaurant so highly the service is 2nd to none the chef mario is not only flambuoyant in his food but also in his manner the veal is to die for the beer named after the building brewed by hawkshead in stavely is sublime the cocker hoop is not to bad either well done duncan , jannine , agita and dave will come back many times
The White House – WindermereI have eaten at the White House many times. Its my favourite eatery in Bowness. The choice of food is excellent and is always of high quality. It is reasonably priced and the ambience of the hotel is excellent. I recently had the pleasure of holding a wedding celebration for 16 people there and Janine, Duncan and Dave could not have been more helpful or accommodating. Even though it was a large party, (including 2 small children) the food and the service was still of the highest standard. I would recommend anyone visiting the Bowness / Windermere area to pay a visit, They wont be disappointed
The White House – WindermereOn Saturday 28/03/09 i enjoyed a fabulous meal at this restaurant. Everything was great from start to finish and the staff were smart, friendly, polite and very professional. We were seated on time and the service was excellent. The decor is cool and contemporary and there was a real buzz about the place. The fishcake starter looked and tasted great as did our main courses of Shin of Beef and Fish'n Chips. The food presentation was really great and I would definitely rate The White House as the best restaurant in Bowness and there are plenty of restaurants here. Another plus was the wine list. There are some lovely wines on the list and the prices are very reasonable. I will definitely be going back and i will not hesitate in recommending this restaurant.
The White House – WindermereSATURDAY 28 MARCH 09 My wife & I made out third visit to Bowness Kitchen as we had previously enjoyed lunchtime meals their. However we found on this occasion that the staff appeared to be somewhat put out by customers requiring attention & that the meal was not up to our expectations. The owners of the business must think that customers should not receive a friendly service, are they aware that in a recession you step up a gear with customer service. Bowness Kitchen – WindermereThe Lighthouse gave excellent service, delicious food and has very comfy seating! Highly recommended.
Lighthouse – Windermere26 March 2009, had a great meal cooked by Marius. Restaurant ambience very spacious, modern and comfortable. Food excellent (salmon trio to start then local lamb fillet on red cabbage, my wife had corn-fed Goosenargh chicken with a mushroom sauce on a bed of spinach - see full details on their menu). Expresso coffee was very good; so was the cheese. Service was prompt, cheerful and professional. Price was very reasonable and the wine wasn't over priced for a change.
The White House – WindermereWhile staying in Ambleside with my wife we ventured out into Bowness on Saturday night to find a nice meal. After mooching around the town centre we stumbled accross Hyltons and after having a quick look at the menu we went inside. The inside of the restaurant is pleasant and as the night progressed quite romantic. We ordered cocktails and some starters, marinated olives and a selection of bread and dipping oil, we were initially going to snack for a while until the evening menu started but we were invited to order from it early if we desired. So the stuffed loin of pork ordered and the 20oz Lamb Henry we finished our nibbles just as the mains arrived. Very nicely presented, side plates of veg and cubed boiled potatoes with the pork. The 20oz Lamb Henry was served on its own bed of basil mash. I can honestly say that I have never had a piece of lamb that was so tender or tasty, the lamb just fell off the bone and very little fat remained on the meat. My wifes pork was equally tasty and tender. After finishing the mains (just managed it without exploding) and washing them down with another couple of cocktails we plumped for Pot au Chocolat and Fruit cocktail both of which again arrived promptly and were absolutely wonderful. The service and ambience of the evening were spot on and the cocktails went down a treat and best of all the extravagant repast, 3 courses with at least 3 cocktails each, cost under £60. Brilliant and highly recommended to anyone in Bowness on Windermere who is looking for a generous stunning meal that will not require a loan to pay for.
Hyltons – WindermereWe go to Bowness 2 or 3 times a year and always go best place in Bowness for food always busy but staff never rush you and food always top class everytime id advise to book before to avoid disappointment
Rastellis Pizzeria – WindermereI wish the food was as nice as the place looks, only 2 veggie options and you can only have chips as the spuds r cooked with meat,i would rate the food 2 out of 10.
Hyltons – WindermereWe stayed in Windermere in September 08. We had evening meals at the Elleray. Plenty of places to wine & dine, but none to beat the Elleray. Good food in the restaurant, followed by good service in the bar area. Friendly staff. Lodgings were being refurbished at the time. But will definitely enquire when we next visit the lakes.
The Elleray – WindermereA great family restaurant with excellent British cuisine and a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Alpine Restaurant – WindermereCompletely souless, no ambience and another Lakeland pub that has gone for a sterile and souless theme. Definately not a traditional Lakeland pub, just another pub in the queue for okay food at bad prices for silly outsiders. When walking through the door into the stone and iron clad interior, one is met by a selection of highly-priced and bland ales. The food is okay, but why oh why is the Lake District being converted into a bland souless monotonous hole?
