Had a great night at the Lakeside! Relaxed in the spa for an hour or so before enjoying a great dinner in the bistro. Breakfast was a feast too! I will be back.

Lakeside Hotel – WindermereWe ate at Jacksons last night (19th Feb 2009). We thought the food was very average and overpriced. My husband had the crab cake for starter which was very bland. For mains courses we had steak and seabass which were acceptable but nothing special. The service was poor, when asked if we wanted to see the desert menu, no mention was made to dishes which were not available so after taking ages to decide on a dessert we were then told "Oh we haven't got that" - surely this should be something that should be mentioned at the time of presenting the menu. For £70.00 for a couple, we expected a little better food and service.
Jacksons Bistro – WindermereExcellent restaurant, good food, good ambiance, very friendly staff. I have already recommended to my family. Make sure you book!
Villa Positano – WindermereWe recently visited Francine's (15th January 2009), we were welcomed by a lovely waitress who served us throughout the evening. We stared the meal with some tasty h'dourves. Three delicious courses - we both really enjoyed the game! We would recommend this restaurant to everyone who wants good quality, delicious food then book here. Warm and friendly 4 star food without the pretentiousness of fine dining. Excellent. We WILL be coming back in the summer.
Francine’s Restaurant and Coffee House – WindermereWe were really disappointed with our meal at the Queens Head. We had booked the table a few weeks in advance and got a table near the toilets/kitchen. My meal was nice but my partner ordered a £25 steak. This steak arrived absolutely tiny. When we complained the manager wasn't very apologetic and offered no compensation. even though he acknowledged that other people had complained. My partner left hungry as we were too annoyed to have dessert. I wouldn't recommend this place
Queens Head Hotel – Windermereme and my partner went to villa positano whilst staying in the lakes, the meal was wonderful and the staff were even better. highly recommended
Villa Positano – WindermereStayed here with my wife for her birthday, really enjoyed our stay here, gorgeous traditional English rooms with four poster beds and beautiful views from the rooms, minutes walk from all the shops and restaurants and then back to the hotel bar for a night cap or three. Highly recommended for short breaks in the lakes.
Applegarth Hotel and Restaurant – WindermereStayed on saturday night in a four poster bed. Had a great lamb shank in front of a roaring fire and polished off a couple of bottles of Rioja. Great place.
Queens Head Hotel – WindermereHad an excellent lunch in this modern bright Bowness cafe. Tip top Chili on a baked potato. Dined on a window table overlooking the busy street, great for a voyeur like me! The place has boutique B&B rooms too. give it a whirl...
Monties – WindermereEXCELLENT - 6 of us had a fabulous meal on Saturday night to celebrate a friends birthday. The food was excellent and all of our party enjoyed the meal. Nive bar/lounge upstairs to relax in while you peruse the menu. Good cross section of choices for all the 3 courses @ £16-95 per head. Some supplements were applicable for a Fillet steak and cheese and biscuits etc. Very good wine list. Well worth a visit if you are ever in Bowness-On Windermere. Would advise booking because it is not a large restaurant.
Postilion Restaurant – WindermereEncouraged by good reviews we were pleased to be able to get a table at this restaurant. The surroundings were very nice and we looked forward to a pleasant, light, Thai meal. The staff were attentive, welcoming and polite. Having placed our order, however, we were very surprised when it arrived within about five minutes. The waitress informed us that this was because they had four chefs working in the kitchen (a strange comment we thought at the time). Unfortunately the food did not benefit from having too many cooks. A simple noodle dish which should have been fresh, tasty and light was stodgy, with what appeared to be omelette through it. The noodles were sticky and the chicken tepid - there were very few vegetables. We decided not to stay for desert. The only bonus was a very nice bottle of a Thai hibiscus and wine spritzter which can be recommended. Other customers seemed to be enjoying their meals, so I cannot understand what went wrong with ours - possibly a wrong choice, but it takes a seriously bad cook to make such a mess of noodles.
Jintana Thai – WindermereOn Holiday, desired a thai meal, sadly disappointed with the quality of the food. improvement required. Very cramped.
Jintana Thai – WindermereI recently ate at the jintana, to say i was unimpressed would be a gross understatement. The food was bland and tasteless, I also found the staff to be inattentive.
Jintana Thai – WindermereWe got married at the Samling, having eaten there a couple of times before. It absolutely lived up to our expectations: wonderful food, great wines, and superb service. Our guests enjoyed all the wonderful bedrooms and we had the time of our lives. We'll be back!
The Samling – WindermereAuthentic italian cuisine at a reasonable price. Fantastic service from attentive staff. I wouldn't hesitate calling in again the next time that I'm in Bowness.
Villa Positano – WindermereA friend from Australia was over in the UK and I wanted to show her the Lakes and take her for lunch in a quintessentially olde world Cumbrian Inn. She was not disappointed! the location is amazing on Kirkstone pass. The place reeks of history and the food, though rustic, has a modern restaurant vibe. Fish Pie, mint risotto, posh bangers and mash and all were excellent! The only thing she did not like was the Cumbrian Way bitter. But honestly it was one of the best pints I've had even if it was a little cold. I'll be back!
Queens Head Hotel – WindermereWe have visited this restaurant on our last 2 trips to windemere. Both times we were not disappointed - staff very friendly, lovely meals and decent portions at reasonable prices. Would definitely recommend a visit.
China Boat The – WindermereWe had the most wonderful mid week break at Broadoaks Country House last month. The house and grounds are simply stunning and all the staff made our stay so relaxing and enjoyable. We had booked on a dinner bed and breakfast rate so only paid £30 each for dinner, the food was exquisite with a great selection and a clear devotion to local produce and Cumbrian cuisine. Little unexpected touches like a the canapes and sorbet pre - dessert really made the experience a special one and we would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. Thank You Broadoaks and Sugarvine.
